If you’ve been in Blueberry Hill, it’s hard to miss our giant Simpsons collection! Our giant display case filled to the entryway is filled with everything from figurines to Pez dispensers…not to mention rare items like Valentine’s Day cards and Christmas ornaments.

The Simpsons have been a part of American culture for over 30 years (they debuted on the Tracey Ullman show in 1987). The Simpsons officially came on the air in 1989. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson are a staple in television history, having been portrayed in 629 episodes of The Simpsons. With that kind of history, it’s pretty easy to see how we’ve accumulated so much Simpsons over the years!

You might not know that we have even MORE Simpsons collectibles in some of our other rooms. Our Pac Man room, for instance, has a large case filled with plates, lunch boxes, clocks, and scenes from The Simpsons’ town of “Springfield.”

Even our Dart Room is a home to some of our Simpsons collection!

With The Simpsons still going strong after 29 seasons, we might need to make more space for even more Simpsons goodies! D’oh!

To celebrate our fabulous Simpsons collection, any customer that posts a picture of their favorite Blueberry Hill Simpsons collectible on Facebook or Instagram will be entered in a contest to win a $25 gift certificate to Blueberry Hill! Just hashtag #blueberryhillstl in your post. The contest will last through the rest of March. Cowabunga!

For this edition of our staff spotlight, let’s get to know Danny Hill a little bit better!  Danny is a shift leader on our wait staff and has been with Blueberry Hill for 6 and a 1/2 years.

Do you remembered the first time you visited Blueberry Hill?

I came here on a date!

Favorite menu item?

Medium rare burger with blue cheese, bacon and grilled onions

Favorite drink?

Bottle of Busch beer (the photo does not lie!)

Favorite Duck Room concert you’ve attended?

Wild Cub with our general manager, Dave Kirk! They were awesome and very thankful for their fans. (Fun fact: you can spot Dave in the background of Danny’s photo!)

Favorite piece of memorabilia?

The Little Rascals Poster

Coolest celebrity encounter?

I waited on the band Animal Collective—and they put me on the guest list for their show!

Favorite song to play on the jukebox here?

Anything that makes the whole crew dance! It used to be Ready for the Floor by Hot Chip. Now, probably anything from Daft Punk.

Favorite tattoo?

I have two, but my favorite is my “Share the Road” bicycle piece on my forearm. It opens up a lot of conversations about why vehicles should be respectful to cyclists on the roads.

Something people might not know about you?

I play drums in a band called the Free Years. We’re super good and a blast if you feel like going out to dance! (Check out our stories on Instagram and Facebook to see the Free Years live!)

Editor’s note: If you run into Danny, ask how he survived a near fatal snakebite…it’s a great story, but you’ve got to hear it in person!

This employee spotlight is highlighting a special member of our crew: our Geeks Who Drink host, Christine! Geeks Who Drink is a pub quiz that we began hosting in our Elvis Room every Tuesday night at 7:30 pm. Read on to learn more about Geeks Who Drink and Christine!

How long have you been a Geeks Who Drink host and how did you get started?

I started hosting just over a year ago. A friend of mine who lives in Colorado, where Geeks Who Drink has a large presence, suggested that I audition because she thought I would like it and be a good host. I’m so glad she thought of me.

What’s your favorite thing about hosting trivia? Has anything crazy happened when you’ve hosted?

I love my Quizzers! That may sound like pandering to the crowd, but it’s the truth. I’ve made real friends hosting for Geeks Who Drink and I love the energy at the quizzes. It’s also kind of fun to give people trouble for really, REALLY wrong answers. But the people that show up every week are why I love this job so much.

Tell us a little about yourself…

I own a flower shop in South City. I don’t have a ton of time for hobbies, honestly, but I like to read when I have some down time, and I really enjoy cooking. (I sound so boring.) I also have a dog named Scout who is a pointer mix, and a tabby cat named Apollo.

Any other fun info that no one knows about you?

I’m really into true crime stories. I played roller derby for five years. I am the biggest Pearl Jam fan you know.

Favorite food at Blueberry Hill?

The burger is the best!

Any fun memories of Blueberry Hill besides trivia?

Only every show I’ve ever seen in the Duck Room! Blueberry Hill is one of my favorite small venues for music.

Why should people come and participate in Geeks Who Drink trivia?

I love the Geeks Who Drink quiz formula: 8 rounds of 8 questions, 2 audio rounds, and a visual round, each one with a theme. The questions are fun and challenging, and hey, you get to hang out with me for 2 hours every Tuesday! Also, the prizes are pretty great, and it costs nothing to come and check it out to see if you love it as much as I do.

It’s hard not to notice the classic Schlitz lamps illuminating our Dining Room-Blueberry Hill’s ambiance certainly would not be the same without the ten vintage lamps adorning our wooden booths.

Our restaurant would not be the same without our gold ladies!

These vintage pieces are straight from 1971-just before our restaurant opened in 1972. The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company is actually much older; the company was founded in the mid-1850s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Isn’t our original sign groovy?

The timeless American lager was served when our restaurant opened (and when we just served hot dogs and peanuts!). Despite a break in the making of this delicious beer, we are proud to serve its classic 1960s formula in bottles today!

With the cool fall weather, there’s no better time to enjoy a beer inside a cozy booth. Mention this post and receive a dollar off of ANY beer on our menu!

Did you know that Joe Edwards met Archie and Jughead…in person? Well, at least he did in print in the Archie’s Pals and Gals Comic Book in 1989!

Displayed in our Dining Room, the Archie “Car Quest West” story features Saint Louis, Blueberry Hill, and our fearless owner, Joe!

Archie is searching for his lost vehicle, “Betsy,” in our great city. However, it turns out to be Joe’s beautiful beauty, “Mississippi Belle.” Despite the mix-up, Joe wishes Archie and Jughead good wishes on their journey-and is forever immortalized in the classic comic book.

Here are some close ups of the fun story…and our fantastic Blue Hill!

View this incredible piece of this Americana at Blueberry Hill-maybe you’ll even see Joe driving one of his classic cars around the Delmar Loop!

Enjoy our spot light on Jackie Hamilton who is a fantastic server on our wait staff!

Favorite Menu Item: Chicken wings!

Favorite drink to order at Blueberry Hill: Busch bottle and Blueberry bomb shot

Best Duck Room concert: Aaron Carter!

Favorite piece of memorabilia:

The old bar! (Editors note: Our solid mahogany bar/backbar is over 135 years old. It was built in North Saint Louis in the 1800s and was eventually used at Messler’s Bar on Cherokee Street from the 1940s til the 60s. It was purchased by Joe and Linda Edwards and was in place for Blueberry Hill’s opening on September 8, 1972.)

Best celebrity encounter since working here: I met Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips at Pin Up Bowl down the street and had a drink with him! Close runner up is Andre 3000 from Outkast.

Something random about you most people don’t know: I have a collection of around 50 vintage cameras of all styles.

Favorite song to play on our jukebox?

Last Christmas by Wham!

Number of tattoos and favorite? I currently have five, but I feel like my favorite is one I’m getting this month—on August 21st I’m getting a solar eclipse themed tattoo by Justin Lamareux from Iron Age Studio in the Loop. He is going to ink me at the Moonrise Hotel Rooftop to commemorate the solar eclipse. I’m super pumped.

Blueberry Hill has plenty of rock’n’roll memorabilia, including plenty of concert posters located throughout our restaurant. These posters are great pieces of art—and a great way to take a stroll down memory lane.

This vintage Woodstock poster, located in our Dining Room, is an awesome reminder of the iconic music festival that paved the way for the many fun summer music festivals to come.
Other classic posters, located in our Piano Room, celebrate the performances of music heroes such as the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Fats Domino, and Chuck Berry. This is only a small sampling of the posters that are located in the Piano Room.
Even more posters specifically showcase concerts from St. Louis history. These posters are from performances at Kiel Auditorium—now better known as the Peabody Opera House.
So come on in, take a look around—maybe we even have a poster of a concert that you attended!

Favorite Menu Item:
The Special Sandwich

Favorite Drink:
Summer Fling

Favorite Duck Room concert:
Slothrust

Favorite piece of memorabilia:
The Giant Eland – right above the entrance to the left side of the bar. It has such a judgmental start – I like its attitude.

Nathaniel Radcliff stopped by after Chuck Berry’s funeral. He posed for pictures with the bar staff and was a cool dude.

Most unusual customer request:
One time a customer didn’t seem to know what a lemon was. I had to describe a lemon to a grown man.

Do you remember the first time you visited Blueberry Hill?
Right after I moved to St. Louis, my girlfriend and I stopped by for drinks. We didn’t realize how the strong the drinks were and got pretty tipsy!
