If you’ve been in Blueberry Hill, it’s hard to miss our giant Simpsons collection! Our giant display case filled to the entryway is filled with everything from figurines to Pez dispensers…not to mention rare items like Valentine’s Day cards and Christmas ornaments.

The Simpsons have been a part of American culture for over 30 years (they debuted on the Tracey Ullman show in 1987). The Simpsons officially came on the air in 1989. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson are a staple in television history, having been portrayed in 629 episodes of The Simpsons. With that kind of history, it’s pretty easy to see how we’ve accumulated so much Simpsons over the years!

You might not know that we have even MORE Simpsons collectibles in some of our other rooms. Our Pac Man room, for instance, has a large case filled with plates, lunch boxes, clocks, and scenes from The Simpsons’ town of “Springfield.”

Even our Dart Room is a home to some of our Simpsons collection!

With The Simpsons still going strong after 29 seasons, we might need to make more space for even more Simpsons goodies! D’oh!

To celebrate our fabulous Simpsons collection, any customer that posts a picture of their favorite Blueberry Hill Simpsons collectible on Facebook or Instagram will be entered in a contest to win a $25 gift certificate to Blueberry Hill! Just hashtag #blueberryhillstl in your post. The contest will last through the rest of March. Cowabunga!

It’s hard not to notice the classic Schlitz lamps illuminating our Dining Room-Blueberry Hill’s ambiance certainly would not be the same without the ten vintage lamps adorning our wooden booths.

Our restaurant would not be the same without our gold ladies!

These vintage pieces are straight from 1971-just before our restaurant opened in 1972. The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company is actually much older; the company was founded in the mid-1850s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Isn’t our original sign groovy?

The timeless American lager was served when our restaurant opened (and when we just served hot dogs and peanuts!). Despite a break in the making of this delicious beer, we are proud to serve its classic 1960s formula in bottles today!

With the cool fall weather, there’s no better time to enjoy a beer inside a cozy booth. Mention this post and receive a dollar off of ANY beer on our menu!

Did you know that Joe Edwards met Archie and Jughead…in person? Well, at least he did in print in the Archie’s Pals and Gals Comic Book in 1989!

Displayed in our Dining Room, the Archie “Car Quest West” story features Saint Louis, Blueberry Hill, and our fearless owner, Joe!

Archie is searching for his lost vehicle, “Betsy,” in our great city. However, it turns out to be Joe’s beautiful beauty, “Mississippi Belle.” Despite the mix-up, Joe wishes Archie and Jughead good wishes on their journey-and is forever immortalized in the classic comic book.

Here are some close ups of the fun story…and our fantastic Blue Hill!

View this incredible piece of this Americana at Blueberry Hill-maybe you’ll even see Joe driving one of his classic cars around the Delmar Loop!

We mourn the passing of Chuck Berry. He was a Rock & Roll legend; the Father of Rock & Roll. He played over 209 consecutive monthly concerts at Blueberry Hill, from 1997–2014. Not only did he create music history at Blueberry Hill, but he was a dear friend to owner Joe Edwards for more than 30 years. Joe grieves but celebrates Chuck’s life. “Goodbye, my friend,” he says.

Chuck Berry’s St. Louis Walk of Fame plaque in the sidewalk in front of Blueberry Hill reads as follows:

Hailed as “The Father of Rock and Roll,” Chuck Berry’s signature guitar work, poetic songwriting and inspired showmanship have influenced every Rock and Roll musician to follow him.  Beginning with “Maybellene” in 1955, he recorded a series of hits that defined the standards of the genre.  He was the first person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.  His Song “Johnny B. Goode” is on the copper records aboard the Voyager space probes, launched into outer space in 1977 to reach out to the universe with the best of our culture.

Rolling Stone named “Johnny B. Goode” the #1 Rock Guitar Song of all time.

Time Magazine’s All-TIME 100 songs – the most extraordinary English language popular recordings, included Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode.”  Time wrote, “Unlike the savage thrumming of later rock guitarists, Berry’s virtuosity wore a smile.  That good-natured energy is what gave the song its imperishable life.”

John Lennon said, “If you tried to give rock & roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry.

Stevie Wonder said, “There’s only one true king of rock & roll.  His name is Chuck Berry.”

When Chuck Berry was honored with the 2014 Polar Music Prize (the musical equivalent of the Nobel Prize), Keith Richards said, “Chuck Berry, he just leaped out of the radio at me.  I ate him basically, I mean I breathed him.  If I listened to Chuck Berry, I was full for the day.”  The Foundation stated, “Every riff & solo played by rock guitarists over the last 60 years contains DNA that can be traced right back to Chuck Berry.”

On the day of Chuck’s passing, Bob Dylan wrote “Thank you for everything, Chuck Berry!  We will never forget you!  May you rest in peace now.”

Bruce Springsteen wrote, “Chuck Berry was rock’s greatest practitioner, guitarist and the greatest pure rock ‘n’ roll writer who ever lived.  This is a tremendous loss of a giant for the ages.”

We will never forget you, Chuck. Your music lives on here in the halls of Blueberry Hill.

Blueberry Hill and Joe Edwards want to wish Chuck Berry a happy 90th birthday!

He’s a legend and we are honored he played 209 consecutive monthly concerts at Blueberry Hill. He last played in the Duck Room on the week of his 88th birthday.

Joe tells the story of how the Blueberry Hill concerts came to be: “Chuck and I have been good friends since the early ’80s. One night in 1996 he was reminiscing about the smaller clubs he used to play when he was just starting out and how much he would love to play an intimate club again in contrast to large stadiums. There was a split-second pause. We looked at each other and said ‘Let’s do it.’ That’s how Chuck Berry came to play once a month at Blueberry Hill in a legendary concert series.”

That when Blueberry Hill opened in 1972 the only forms of non-liquid sustenance we offered were peanuts and that salty/sweet cousin of the peanut know as the Beer Nut? Not long after we got a hot dog warming machine. Then a little  while later we unveiled our first menu which featured cold cut sandwiches, served with “a few broken potato chips.”  The next step was truly a giant leap, as we outfitted a tiny kitchen with a grill and St. Louis’ Best Burger was born.

In the intervening years, our menu has grown steadily; new items were created and canonized as staples of the St. Louis restaurant world. We like to think that we have something for everyone, from homemade soups to red beans and rice, wings, fried appetizers, deserts, big salads, trout almondine, breakfast all day, and enough delicious sandwiches to cripple you with indecision.

Did you know that on top of all that we offer a daily special? It’s true. And they taste great! Today we have Philly Cheesesteak Sliders. Tomorrow it might be Shrimp Sara, Chicken Major Grey, a Breakfast Quesadilla, or a Meatloaf Plate.

Next time you walk in to Blueberry Hill, take a glance at our specials board or ask your server about our daily special. If you can pry yourself away from your long-time favorite menu item we’ll have something new and tasty for you to try!

Hello devoted Blueberry Hill Blog fans!

We are back with another edition of the Blueberry Hill Blog Memorabilia Spotlight. This time around, after our signature quick and haphazard selection process, the spotlight has landed on a native St. Louisan and the king of the explicit party record. You may know him best as TV’s Fred Sanford, or by his given name John Elroy Sanford, but the name he chose for himself was Redd Foxx.

It is certainly a great honor to have your likeness captured in the form of commemorative bobblehead doll. It’s unclear whether it is a greater, lesser, or equal honor to being inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame and having a brass star and informational bronze plaque laid into the hallowed concrete of the sidewalks of Delmar Boulevard. Redd would be the perfect person to ask about this particular hierarchy of accolades, alas he has gone to a better place. At least we have plenty to remember him by!

Next time you are in The Loop check out Redd’s star on the Walk of Fame (6331 Delmar) and then pop in Blueberry Hill and see his bobblehead doll in a case in the Dart Room. You’ll see him nodding along with his old pals Hef and Mr. Bill!

Hello again Blueberry Hill Blog fans!

Please allow us to introduce you to one of our beloved regulars: around here he goes by the name Motorcycle Mike. Next time you’re walking in to Blueberry Hill take a moment to look for a Black Honda VTX 1800 motorcycle parked out front. If you see one, odds are Motorcycle Mike is holding down his regular bar stool on the old side of the bar.

On a recent sunny afternoon at Blueberry Hill the BBH blog staff conducted a short interview with Motorcycle Mike to give you a little peak inside the mind of the man behind the motorcycle.

BBH Blog: When was the first time you ever came to Blueberry Hill?

Motorcycle Mike: 1972. I wasn’t here for opening night, but I came very early on with my best friend. This place was our St. Elmo’s Fire.

BBH Blog: When did you secure your status as a Blueberry Hill Regular?

Motorcycle Mike: Well, I’ve been coming in pretty regularly since 1972, but around 1998 I switched from sitting at a table to sitting at the bar. At the bar I interact with the staff more. I think around that time I became a true regular.

BBH Blog: What do you like about Blueberry Hill? What keeps you coming back?

Motorcycle Mike: The staff here makes me feel at home. That and the pour. My wife Mary and I like to bring our dog and sit on the patio in the nice weather. Blueberry Hill is just a great place where I feel very welcome and at home.

BBH Blog: What is your favorite thing on the menu?

Motorcycle Mike: Most of the time I get a 7oz Cheeseburger with the scoop cheddar. I also love the Trout Almondine!

BBH Blog: How Long have you been riding motorcycles?

Motorcycle Mike: 43 years! My wife and I got married in 1972 (the same year Blueberry Hill opened) and with some of the money we received at the wedding I bought my first bike, a 1970 BSA lightning 650.

BBH Blog: Other than your own, what is your favorite bike that you see at Blueberry Hill?

Motorcycle Mike: Anthony on the wait staff has my dream bike. It’s a 2006 Harley Softail Deluxe. He let me ride it one time, which was nice of him since most Harley guys won’t let anyone touch their bikes.

BBH Blog: Have you ever had any close encounters with celebrities at Blueberry Hill?

Motorcycle Mike: Yes! I’ve seen John Goodman and Sinead O’conner. They both seemed very nice.

BBH Blog: Let’s finish with a memorable Blueberry Hill moment.

Motorcycle Mike: The Blueberry Hill 40th Anniversary (September 8, 2012) was one of the best nights of my life. My wife and I were married in 1972, the same year Blueberry Hill opened, so we celebrated our 40th anniversary at Blueberry Hill’s 40th anniversary party. We felt like part of the family. It was great!

That is where you will find one of the crown jewels of our not-strictly-authentic-taxidermy collection. Immediately to the left of the door into the Dart Room, above the change machine, resides this bad boy.

Be honest, have you ever seen a more beautifully preserved specimen? Especially considering that this impressive reptile is presumably between 65 and 230 million years old! When word first got out amongst the staff that Blueberry Hill was getting a dinosaur many of us were expecting that it would be bigger. Perhaps this particular specimen was a juvenile, I guess there is no way to know for sure until we finally hire that staff paleontologist we’ve been looking for.

Next time you’re in Blueberry Hill be sure and take a moment to check out the Dart Room-o-sauras and our display case of more well known dinosaurs!
